Biography

Dr. ZhiGang Xiong is Director of the Neurophysiology Program of the R. S. Dow Neurobiology Laboratories at the Legacy Clinical Research Center. Dr. Xiong is an inventor of our acute stroke therapy.Dr. Xiong received his M.D. from Anhui Medical University in 1984 and M.Sc. from Sun Yet-Sen University of Medical Science in 1987. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Ottawa in 1995 and had his postdoctoral training in the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto from 1995 to 1999. He is a recognized expert on the function of ion channels and membrane receptors in ischemic brain injury. Dr. Xiong has been awarded $4 million in grants from the NIH/NINDs to fund ion channel research.
