Biography
Derk W. Krieger MD PhD has spent his entire carrier in academic neuroscience. After Medical School in Germany he did a neurology residency in Aachen and Heidelberg, Germany. He conducted clinical research in the field of neurophysiology and obtained a PhD in Neurology. He also obtained training in Neurocritical Care with special board’s recognition. In 1996 he accepted a position as director of neurological critical care at the University of Texas at Houston, USA and moved to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as a stroke consultant and researcher in 1998. He obtained training in Endovascular Therapeutics in 2000-2004. In 2007 he accepted a position as Clinical Professor for Cerebrovascular Diseases at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark along with a consulting position at the Universities teaching hospitals. He has conducted numerous clinical trials and has served as a consultant for pharmaceutical & medical device companies as well as government agencies. In his new position he is involved with the creation of a comprehensive stroke center for the city of Copenhagen, research with particular emphasis on clinical therapeutic trials, along with teaching medical students, residents and fellows at the University and teaching hospitals.
